Michelle Withers

Kia Ora, my name is Michelle Withers and I am one of the educators at Buttercups Early Learning Centre in Pukekohe. I have been teaching for the past 13 years. I live at Kariotahi in Waiuku with my husband Andrew, our daughters Chelsie and Ashlyn and my step-sons Connor and Mitchell. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Teaching Early Childhood Education degree and a full teacher’s registration.

This is part of my personal teaching philosophy; I consider that it is important to build nurturing and responsive relationships with infants, toddlers and young children, as interactions play a fundamental role in early childhood education and care. I believe that children have individual ways of learning – the way that one child builds an understanding may not necessarily be the same as another and this needs to be incorporated into the curriculum. I consider that learning should be facilitated by stimulating children’s interests through providing a wide range of learning experiences and teaching strategies to promote children’s love for learning through play. I believe that a teachers behaviour needs to be worthy of imitation and I endeavour to implement an effective, positive learning environment.

My interests include activities with my family such as, going to the beach, watching movies and going out for brunch on the weekends.
